Be part of something different at the IPI World Congress 2020, organized by the International Press Institute (IPI).  At IPIWoCo 2020, we’re more than a conference. We’re a movement for journalism!

UPDATE RE: COVID-19
PREPARATIONS CONTINUE AS WE MONITOR THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

We know it’s hard to plan right now. Like you, we’re watching closely how Covid-19 is disrupting the world. But we are determined to come together so put this date in your diary – and if the world gets in the way we’ll adapt. Our priority will be your health and safety, and if that means we need to shift dates, then we will. And you will be the first to know in time to make proper arrangements.

Coming together at the IPI World Congress will be a statement of global solidarity in support of the journalism that is able to guide us through an unprecedented crisis with the trustworthy information we need and that points the finger at those who pursue their own interests when public health is at stake.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, this seems more important than ever before and  we are closely monitoring press freedom restrictions in this exceptional situation. Read more here.

ABOUT IPI WORLD CONGRESS 2020
organized by the International Press Institute (IPI)

For two and a half days, we’ll put journalism at the centre of the world. We’ll go to the heart of what matters: journalism that informs our communities, makes sense of the world we live in, and holds power to account.
We’ll be talking about the infrastructure that journalism needs if we’re going to fulfill our promise to society and we’ll break it down into three programme lines:
  • QUALITY JOURNALISM
Stories you can trust: the best of journalism in the (dis)information age – from around the world and around the corner.
  • FREEDOM & SAFETY
The rights that let us do our job: press freedom, safety and a democratic media environment, all of which are under threat globally.
  • BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY
A media business that sustains us: understanding our audience and the opportunities technology offers to deliver journalism and news products that delight and serve our communities.

The International Press Institute (IPI), the global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists for press freedom, will celebrate its 70th anniversary at Columbia University, its founding location. IPI is honored to be hosted by Columbia University and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. IPI was founded in 1950 by 34 editors from 15 countries to defend journalistic quality and independence.
