We are more than an event. We’re a MOVEMENT FOR JOURNALISM. An annual gathering of journalists & editors from globally-renowned media, organized by the International Press Institute (IPI).

This year’s IPI World Congress was moved online for the first time in our 70 year history, but we hope to be back in real life in New York next year. We’re working with our hosts at Columbia University to set the dates for September 2021, so stay tuned here for any updates.

Sarah Ward-Lilley has been Managing Editor for BBC News and Current Affairs since February 2018. Prior to this, Sarah spent 4 years as Head of International Bureaux for BBC News, overseeing the BBC’s network of nearly 70 offices around the world.
She has been at the BBC for over 30 years and has worked as a producer and manager in the London newsroom, at Westminster and overseas. She was Deputy Head of Newsgathering until 2013.
Sarah represents the BBC on the News Committee of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). From 2014 to 2020, she was Chair of the Rory Peck Trust, a charity which provides advice, resources and emergency assistance to freelance newsgatherers. She is on the Governing body of Islington Futures, a federation of four primary and secondary schools in north London and, until 2015, she was on the Board of the UK Psychological Trauma Society.
She was made an MBE in the 2020 News Year Honours for services to mental health and journalism.
Sarah is married and has two step sons. She spends weekends in Hampshire and enjoys walking, cycling, sailing and cooking.
